The secret to weight loss

We’re always looking for the secret to weight loss, the truth is, there isn’t one!! Or is there?!? We used to say Slimming World was the best kept secret, but more and more people know now it’s the best weight loss method that there is!! We are the no.1 slimming organisation in the uk and we are just going from strength to strength!

I do however have a secret to share with you, if it’s something you’ve not heard of. The book called The Secret. This book could seriously change your life and how you look and feel about yourself!!

I’ve had this book for three years after buying it from amazon and just never got around to reading it!! I finally read it while in Barcelona recently and I couldn’t put it down!!! I’ve always been passionate in my group about having a positive mental attitude. I’ve always believed in the famous Henry Ford quote that whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right! This book backs up this quote beautifully!!

So what’s the secret?!?! I’m going to use lots of quotes from the book to help explain it. Stay with me and keep an open mind 😉

“Be grateful for what you have now. As you begin to think about all the things in your life you are grateful for, you will be amazed at the never ending thoughts that come back to you of more things to be grateful for. You have to make a start, and then the law of attraction will receive those grateful thoughts and give you more just like them.”
― Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

You might be thinking, er ok this all sounds a bit weird but read on…….

Your thoughts become things! I totally agree with this, The Secret is all about your mindset. It’s about remembering that your thoughts are the primary cause of everything. I love this quote,

“You are the masterpiece of your own life. You are the Michelangelo
of your own life. The David you are sculpturing is you”

Outside influences can be just excuses that we put in our own way. We have the power to change us if we want it bad enough and think positively.

Think about when you have really happy days. If you are feeling good, its usually because you are thinking good thoughts. Your thoughts can attract everything that you require. If it’s money you need you will attract it. If it’s people you need you’ll attract it. You’ve got to pay attention to what you’re attracted to, because as you hold images of what you want, you’re going to be attracted to things and they’re going to be attracted to you. But it literally moves into physical reality with and through you. And it does that by law. The law of attraction.

“Every thought of yours is a real thing – a force. It will have a cause and effect.”

Rhonda Byrne, The author of The Secret makes a fabulous point here,

“It is impossible to bring more into your life if you are feeling ungrateful about what you have. Why? Because the thoughts and feelings you emit as you feel ungrateful are all negative emotions. ”

Sound familiar? Does one bad day turn in to another? We need to switch our thoughts and our mind sets!!

There’s an entire chapter in this book dedicated to weight loss. It was like she was talking to me!! One statement that really stood out is the fact that food isn’t what causes weight gain, it’s our thoughts surrounding food and being overweight that causes it!

Rhonda believes the following,

“If you’re not feeling good and you want to change the way you feel, or if you want to lift good feelings higher, then take a minute or two and go through a mental list of everything you love and adore. You can do it while getting dressed in the morning, walking, driving or traveling anywhere.”

You may of seen all the #100 happy days on social media, or you might of heard of the three blessings?? This is basically what Rhonda is saying. Be grateful, think happy thoughts and you will attract more happy things.

So how can we re train what label we’ve given our bodies?? I always moan about my thighs!!!! Have they ever really changed, no!! So now I’m thankful for other parts of my body and I’m trying really hard to not label myself and let’s see if I can slim these bad boys down. If I keep saying I’m always going to have chunky thighs, I will!!

“Whatever you believe about your body, your cells believe too. They don’t question anything you think, feel, or believe. In fact, they hear every thought, feeling, and belief you have.”

When I think about my last holiday this reinforces the book entirely. The last two holidays I’ve been so ill with vertigo after the flight. This time I decided to visualise being fine, getting on and off the plane and having an amazing holiday. I kept saying I’m going to be fine and it’s going to be amazing. Guess what, I was and the holiday was wonderful. So is there something in this?!? I’ve struggled with sleeping for two years too. I now imagine before I go to bed having a fab nights sleep, I’m grateful for it and I even say to my boyfriend how amazing my sleep is going to be lol. You might think I’ve gone mad but it flipping works!!!!! I’ve slept better than I have been in years!!!

Do you always focus on what you don’t want as opposed to what you do? Ie, I don’t want to be overweight any more. This is a negative statement and can hold you back. Do you ever think, well I’ve failed before, I probably will again!! Noooooooooooo you’re just limiting your own beliefs. Have you ever been labelled by doctors, friends, or even family? Have they told you you’ll never lose weight, or will always find it hard?!?! Er be quiet please, we don’t need your negative thoughts!! If you except these thoughts, whether they are from others or yourself it will become your reality. Let go of limiting thoughts, imagine throwing them all in a pile and setting fire to them! Gone forever!! Fling those negative knickers off and whack those positive pants on!!!

Lots of famous sportsmen and women, singers, actors use the visualisation technique. The Secret also recommends this method. They advise you to visualise and get a really clear picture of the weight you want to be and how you want to look. Believe you can do it, focus on that goal and imagine how it’s going to feel when you’ve hit it. But most importantly feel happy now. Losing weight doesn’t automatically make you happy.

So remember to remember, banish those thoughts and be happy.
