Breadless sandwich ideas on lifeline online

One of the great things about Food Optimising is that bread isn’t ‘banned’ (as it is with some diets). Many Slimming World members tell us that while they’re partial to a Free Food packed sandwich at lunchtime, they’d rather enjoy their Healthy Extra ‘b’ choice at another time of the day – which is absolutely fine by us!
So to help you get that sandwich taste without having to tuck into your Syns, here’s a selection of super lunchtime suggestions.
Lettuce cups
Cos and romaine lettuce leaves are brilliant cups for your favourite sandwich fillings. Pile them high and pop them in your mouth – the possibilities are endless!
Cooked chicken and salsa made with chopped onions, chilli, coriander and lime juice
Tuna (canned in brine or spring water) with sweetcorn and 1 tbsp extra light mayo (1 Syn)
Chinese chicken and lettuce wraps
Fat free cottage cheese and chives mixed with 30g cheddar cheese (Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice) and spring onions
Chilli con carne – perfect if you’ve got leftovers from the night before!
Omelette wraps
To keep these Free or low-Syn, a thinly cooked omelette takes the place of a high-Syn tortilla (an average wrap is 9 Syns!).
To make the omelette lightly beat 1 egg in a large measuring jug and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Pour the egg mixture into a non-stick pan and tilt it around. Cook for 1½ minutes on each side or until the edges turn golden then loosen with a palette knife and slide on to greaseproof paper.
Fill your boots with these Free fillings:
Tex-Mex omelette wraps
Smoked salmon, wilted spinach and Quark seasoned with lemon and freshly ground pepper
Strips of cooked turkey, chopped smoked bacon (all fat removed) and cherry tomatoes
Sautéed peppers, mushrooms and onions (cooked in low calorie cooking spray) and melted cheese (Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice)
Top tip: Iceberg lettuce leaves also make great wraps and they’re equally as delicious – just pick the biggest leaves of the lot!
Meat on the outside wraps
Slices of meat form the outside of these bite-sized wraps and they’re bursting with flavour. Every one of these meaty marvels are Free, too – so enjoy as many as you like!
Ham, char-grilled red peppers, asparagus and quark
Beef, rocket and fat free cottage cheese
Pastrami, iceberg lettuce, red onions and chopped gherkins – add 1 tsp mustard for ½ Syn
Turkey stuffed with grated carrot, cabbage and red onion mixed with fat free yogurt to make a coleslaw
Mushroom burger buns
Grilled Portobello mushrooms make delicious, veggie-friendly burger bun replacements. They’re sure to sprinkle some mushroom magic on your midday meal. Slimming World members have been raving about these fab flavour combinations…
35g grilled halloumi (Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice), tomato and basil
Swap the wholemeal roll in these bacon burgers for a tasty twist on this bbq classic
And these beanburgers are equally as delicious!
Super snacks
Speedy and satisfying, these bite-size standbys are super for having in your fridge to fill up on whenever you’re hungry. They’re perfect for popping in lunchboxes for food-on-the-go, too!
Cucumber towers: alternate layers of turkey, carrot and cucumber
Party skewers: thread pineapple chunks and slices on ham onto cocktail sticks
Mini quiches: These bite-sized quiches are delicious hot or cold
Asparagus spears: wrap ham around asparagus and cook in the oven for 5-6 minutes, until the ham is lightly browned and the asparagus is tender
Stuffed tomatoes: cut the tops off tomatoes, scoop out the insides and stuff with fat free cottage cheese or tuna mixed with spring onion and fat-free yogurt
